I was a little hesitant to watch this as a family after seeing so many negative parent reviews about how dark and scary it is, but found it to be totally fine for my 11-year-old daughter. We enjoyed it and it made us want to see the stage version next. Yes, there are some scary things that happen, so I wouldn't recommend it for kids much younger, but I think it's fine for tweens and teens.
