Bear Creek Mountain
Tim Ponisciak: Located about an hour from Philly, Bear Creek offers skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing, plus there is a great ski lodge at the base of the mountain and a spa for those who may not as interested in being outdoors!
Jack Frost Ski Resort
Tim Ponisciak: Jack Frost is right by another resort, Big Boulder, so it is nice to be able to go to both for ski fanatics. Jack Frost has 20 trails, snow tubing, and good dining options, including a burrito bar.
Montage Mountain Resorts
Dawn Barger Wiggins: Montage Mountain is home to great beginner terrain, awesome steeps and trail diversity in the Mid-Atlantic. With an equal offering of beginner, intermediate, and expert slopes you'll be sure to find the "it" you're looking for.
Blue Mountain Ski Resort
Tim Ponisciak: Blue Mountain Resort is home to PA's highest vertical, one of the largest snowmaking systems on the east coast AND the longest and fastest snow tubing lanes in PA! Runs range from very easy to challenging. There is a great pub at the resort on the mountain!
Spring Mountain Adventures
Tim Ponisciak: Spring Mountain is probably the closest family option for Philadelphians who want to hit the slopes. You can ski, snowboard or snow tube! There are 8 trails and Spring Mountain also has a lot of options for lessons for all ages beginning at age 3.
Camelback Mountain Resort
Tim Ponisciak: Camelback is regularly voted as the top ski resort in Pennsylvania. Night skiing is available and there are trails for everyone, regardless of ability. And, the resort is a great place to stay and play for a long weekend as there is an indoor waterpark too!
Shawnee Mountain Ski Area
Tim Ponisciak: Shawnee is a Pocono-area favorite. This resort is a particularly good one for those new to skiing and snowboarding. There are 23 trails in all, and a wide variety of specialty lessons for all ages (including Mommy/Daddy & Me opportunities). Kids as young a 4 can enroll in half or full day lessons which are offered daily.
They also have snow tubing hills, mountain dining, and full-day babysitting options!
