Best STEM Classes for Philadelphia Kids

Vanessa M.:  Science Explorers has a passion for science education through hands-on fun! Elementary students are invited to join or start an after-school science club at their school. Science Explorers offers their after-school clubs to any elementary school in PA, NJ, DE, MD, and DC. If your child’s school does not currently offer this program, please have them contact Science Explorers. Fun topics like Kaboom Chemistry and Marine Biology Mania provide hands-on experiments and exciting, educational projects.

Vanessa M.:  With an emphasis on play, Snapology of Philadelphia will have your children learning before they even realize it! Classes include LEGO-themed programs, robotics, engineering, animation, fidget spinner science and more. Classes range from one-time workshops to weeks-long series'. When checking the schedule, be aware that some locations are for students/campers only while other locations are free to the public. Snapology also hosts birthday parties!

Ages: preschool - 12th grade, varies by class/location

Vanessa M.:  Maker Jawn provides a free daily space in select local libraries for Philadelphians of all ages to explore and experiment in a self-directed way, using the resources provided and the team of mentors available. From creative technology projects like 3D printing, electrical circuitry, and creating short films, Philadelphia students interested in STEM are able to gain hands-on experience in whatever interests them.

Vanessa M.:  Women are underrepresented in STEM fields, and Techgirlz is on a mission to change that! The non-profit organization offers free workshops for middle school age girls in the areas of circuits & hardware, media & production, fashion technology, and cybersecurity. Vanessa M.:  The Center for Architecture and Design hosts educational programs and exhibitions celebrating Philadelphia architecture. Free workshops are offered on select Saturdays that allow the whole family to learn something new and work together on a design project. At Read + Make, spend time listening to a story and creating an art project. Come to Design + Build ready to learn about architecture and design, and then put your new knowledge into practice by designing a project straight from your imagination.

Vanessa M.:  Coded by Kids is committed to bringing free technology education classes to kids! Their weekly classes bring education and awareness of technology through real-world skills and mentor support. Kids can expect creative project-based learning, and will learn basic coding concepts all the way up to advanced software development! Classes are held at the Graduate Hospital - Marian Anderson Recreation Center.
