    Colgate Peroxyl

Kelly R:  We find this mouth rinse helpful in healing the little irritations and sores that pop up with braces. It's a good thing to include in a braces survival kit that you'll have ready when your kid first gets their braces on, so they have it right away if they need it.

    OrthoDots

Kelly R:  These little silicone dots are an alternative to the traditional wax that orthodontists give out to cover any spots on the braces that are causing irritation. I find that these are much easier for my kid to apply.

    Platypus Orthodontic Flossers

Kelly R:  We tried a variety of different orthodontic flossers for my son, and these are by far his favorite. Flossers that your kid will actually use are braces essentials that you should figure out fast so they can start a good routine from the beginning! These did take a little getting used to before he was really comfortable with them, because it can feel like a tight fit to slide them behind the wires. Don't give up if it doesn't feel natural at first.

    Waterpik Water Flosser

Kelly R:  Our orthodontist suggested using a water flosser on weekdays and traditional floss on weekends for better compliance, so we added this one to our braces supplies and it's working really well. I like that it gives an extra clean around the braces and gums to catch anything that my kid misses with the toothbrush.
