Indianapolis Free Museum Days (2024 Calendar)

The Muncie Children's Museum offers free days on the third Saturday of each month. Explore, create and discover throughout MCM's wide variety of interactive, hands-on exhibits!

The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library has free days on the first Monday of each month. Former author and Indianapolis native, Kurt Vonnegut took a sarcastic approach to writing and is remembered for this witty sense of humor. Visitors can see an old-fashioned typewriter used by Vonnegut and learn how the famed author fought against censorship.

Newfields offers free days on the first Thursday of every month. See inspiring works of art in the Indianapolis Museum of Art, stroll through lush gardens, and discover a 100-acre nature park. Advanced ticketing is required.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis offers free days four times each year as well as discounted admission from 4-8pm on the first Thursday of each month. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis features five floors of exhibits and interactive learning activities in the arts, world cultures, sciences and humanities.

It is always free to walk the steps of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Walk up 330 steps (or take the elevator for a small fee) to the Observation Level to see an all around view of the city from 275 feet up. Access to the tower stairs is restricted when outside temperatures exceed 90 degrees.

The Indianapolis State Police Museum always offers free admission. The ISP presents the past and present of the Indiana State Police and its connection with the community. Kids will have fun exploring this museum as they see different uniforms worn over the years, a police car from 1938 and a mask worn by John Dillinger.

The Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust – Allison Branch always offers free admission. However, please be aware that tours of the annex are available by reservation only.  This museum includes an extensive collection of power products made by Rolls-Royce and U.S. predecessor Allison Engine Company.
