Eastern Market
Kristy Pepping: Eastern Market is one of the oldest and largest public markets in the United States. Throughout the year, they will offer cooking classes for kids. Just click on the link under classes to see what is available and you can book right online. Class options rotate throughout the year, but you will find seasonal cooking topics and nutritional classes available based on different dietary restrictions.
Zingerman's Bakehouse
Kristy Pepping: Zingerman's Bakehouse offers BAKE! which is located between Zingerman's Bakehouse and Zingerman's Creamery. At BAKE!, kids can learn some of the baking traditions that Zingerman's uses. They offer several different bread, pastry and cake baking classes and occasionally cooking classes. Make sure to check under their family category for the kids' baking classes as they also offer adult classes. These kids' classes require at least one adult per child or two children per one adult. Starting at age 13, kids are welcome to sign up and attend the adult classes without a guardian.
Sprouting Chefs
Kristy Pepping: Sprouting Chefs is a cooking school for kids and young adults. It's run by a dietician and offers a true farm to table style of cooking. They even have a garden located just outside their front door where kids can learn what grows in a garden and how to incorporate this into a meal. Classes run for three hours. The cost of the class includes instruction, equipment, aprons recipe packets and a tasting of what was made during class. Classes take place at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Experience Cooking
Kristy Pepping: Experience Cooking is run by a private chef out of her home. To find a class for your child, check out her online calendar and locate the classes labeled kids classes or family classes. All other classes are for adults only. All classes offer hand-on experience in creating a gourmet dinner regardless of experience level.
Rata2ee
Kristy Pepping: Rata2ee is a cooking school that offers classes for both kids and adults. Their kids' program is called Rata2ee Rascals. This program offers 6-week courses that focus on a combination of cooking and baking. They will teach key skills like knife basics, kitchen safety, sanitation and nutrition. Kids will begin each class with a snack, then will make something in class to take home and enjoy. All recipes are nut free.
