One of the best things about having a teenager is finally being able to share some of your favorite TV shows, movies, books and games that would not have been appropriate or enjoyable for them when they were younger.

It’s so great to be able to spend this time together, not only because it is fun but also because you can grow so much closer through these shared experiences, and the conversations that often come with them.

What are some of the best TV shows for teens that you’ve watched together? Whether comedy, romance, drama, mystery or something else, if you and your teen watched it together and enjoyed it, we want to know about it!

    The Office

Tracy Snyder Molina:  We rewatch episodes with our teen boys. A classic and still makes me laugh out loud.

    Downton Abbey

As an opulent Yorkshire estate struggles to find its footing in the 20th century, Downton Abbey follows the dramatic, funny and scandalous stories of the aristocratic family that lives there and the household staff that works downstairs.

    The Good Place

Alexandra F.:  This series starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell quickly became one of my favorite shows ever, and after sharing it with our older tween and teen it has become theirs, too. The main character finds herself in "the good place" after dying, but thinks she may be there by mistake. The story that unfolds is seriously hilarious and also offers some thoughtful reflections about what it means to live a good life. Just beware of the Mindy St Claire scenes (which are pretty rare, and can easily be skipped!), as they usually involve a lot of sex and drugs talk.

    Stranger Things

Kelly R:  We watched this without kids when it was new, and then I rewatched it with my 7th grader when some of his peers were getting into it. I think it was the first more "grown-up" show he watched, and he loves it. I think season 4 is way more scary than the previous ones...more of a horror feel than sci-fi...but it was never really too much for him.

    Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso is a heartwarming comedy about an American football coach who is hired to manage a struggling English soccer team. Despite his lack of knowledge about the sport, Ted's optimism and kindness win over the team and the fans.

    The Summer I Turned Pretty

This teen show follows a love triangle between two brothers and their childhood friend as they navigate summer romance and family drama.

    Wednesday

An Addams-inspired Netflix series for tweens and teens who are into some thrills. Wednesday Addams enrolls at the boarding school where her own parents once haunted the halls.

    Outer Banks

A group of teenage friends from the Outer Banks of North Carolina go on the run from local authorities and other treasure hunters after finding a legendary treasure.

    Gilmore Girls

Kate Wille Murray:  The story of 3 generations of women and the stories of their relationship as they go through life. Lorelai became a young mom when Rory was born and they moved away from their family to the town of Stars Hollow. The townspeople became their surrogate family over the years. As time passes Lorelai and her parents reconnect. This fast-talking, fast-paced show is fun. So much about friendship and believing in oneself.

    Heartstopper

Heartstopper is a heartwarming coming-of-age series that follows the blossoming friendship and romance between two teenage boys, Charlie and Nick, as they navigate their lives, identities, and feelings for each other at a British secondary school.
