Parents, do you dress up for Halloween?
I've noticed that a handful of families in our neighborhood dress up for Halloween together (including mom and dad) and go out trick or treating. Their costumes are usually themed and are always adorable. We are thinking about joining in on the fun and dressing up this year too. In your family, do parents dress up for Halloween, or just the kids?

You're never too old to dress up, in my opinion! We've done some theme costumes: my husband was Hans Solo/our son was Darth Vader; I was Cruella DeVil/our baby was a dalmation... that kind of thing. The kids get a kick out of it, and I don't feel bad eating half their candy, after all I earned it! :)

We don't do anything specifically for Halloween, but we do attend a fall costume party every year and dress up as a family. Last year we were a rock band (my husband let me put eyeliner on him and my baby got a mohawk -- HA!) and this year we're planning to enlist my parents and all go as the Shark family from the Baby Shark song. (Do doooo do do do do...…)

Lol! Thanks for getting that one stuck in my head now. :)

My dream as a musical theater performer is to do family costumes each year of a different musical- this year's goal is Grease. We'll see how long my husband will play along ;)

I love this! I hope it works out for you!

For those interested- Halloween being in the middle of the week with a 1 year old has proven to be too tricky- so we went to a Halloween event at our local arboretum this weekend and my daughter went as an adorable owl! Maybe we'll do Grease next year :)

Fun! That's such a smart way to get some Halloween fun in without dealing with the midweek commotion!

We've done it both ways but we've never coordinated all our costumes which I think is always fun to see in other people's photos. I usually take the kids out trick-or-treating while my husband stays home to hand out the candy so it's not like we are all together at one time for the most part.

I love Halloween and dressing up, but for some reason didn't start doing family costumes until last year. I think after I had kids, I lost the time necessary to DIY, and costumes can be so expensive! After we all dressed up as sea creatures last year, I'm all in, and am vowing to have us do family costumes as long as the kids will play along. This year we have a rocket ship, two aliens, an astronaut, and the moon.

We dress up, but minimally! Years ago I made myself and my husband jack-o-lantern shirts (orange with black pumpkin faces) and we just put them on to go trick-or-treating!

I am a big no. I can hardly manage getting my three kids Halloween costumes every year. Trying to dress my husband and I along with them would just stress me out. Ha! Love seeing pictures of all those family costumes on social media.

I would love to do a family set of costumes but my husband would never agree to it. He's a Halloween Scrooge ;)
-
If I dressed up, it wouldn't be a theme with my 2 kids because they pick different costumes. One year they were both army men though so that year could have worked, except it was very last minute and I would have been searching for my costume literally on Oct. 29.
-
Of course I dress up! Plus my children love the fact that I'm involved and in the Halloween spirit as well :)
-
We don't do family costumes, but they always look like so much fun and I'm annually impressed by those families that can pull them off. ;)
-
I would dress up if adult costumes weren't so expensive. I'm not crafty enough to make a costume for myself and my kids always want to he anime characters (which tend to be considered more cosplay instead of Halloween costumes) so I let it be for the kids.

Totally agree!! We’ve had good luck finding deals at thrift stores like Goodwill - they put out tons of costumes starting around August so you have a pretty good selection. Of course, if you have a particular costume in mind, it’s hit or miss. One year we borrowed a few costumes through a Facebook mom group thread that was started specifically for selling/lending/requesting costumes, which was awesome.
