When is bedtime for your 5- or 6-year-old?

The bath or shower has been taken, stories have been read, a glass of water is on the nightstand, and it’s finally time to turn off the light and for your 5- or 6-year-old to go to sleep...what time is it, really???

We have Alexa (Amazon Echo) programed at 8pm to tell my 5yo to go to bed. That's typically when we start the routine. She's usually pretty tired so baths/showers and stories are quick. However, she sleeps with a flashlight next to her pillow and I know she reads her books in bed after I leave so who knows what time she is really falling asleep!

What a great use for Alexa! I'm sure she's much more on top of bedtime than I usually am, ha!

This is brilliant. The kids respond to Alexa better than to me anyway!

Ugh I hate to say it, but it ends up being between 8:30 and 9. Her bedtime mind you is 7:30, but our 5-year-old manages to stretch bedtime out way past that. She comes out of her room asking for more snacks or stories or snuggles. The excuses go on! I guess it is third child status?

Oh good! So glad to hear we're not the only ones!! ;)

Technically, our 6yo's bedtime is 8pm, but it tends to sneak past that on most nights - often due to getting the first two to bed late! He's definitely tired after school most days though and often could fall asleep earlier than 8 if I could get him there.

I aim for lights out at 8 pm and on average we hit that. My 6 year old does not sleep in, therefore every minute he is up past his bedtime is lost sleep for him.
