I love the idea of an outdoor movie night. Project a movie on a screen outside, lounge around on sleeping bags and pillows, and pass around the snacks!
-
Inflatables are always a hit, though renting one can be pricy. We've done the giant slides in the past, and they are tons of fun for kids and adults!
-
Customization stations like make-your-own pizza or a top-your-own ice cream sundae bar.
-
We did a Minute to Win It game tournament when my son turned 8, and the boys loved it. Stacking pennies, balloon bounce, toilet paper mummies, stacking solo cups, etc.
-
My daughter wanted one last year. We rented a waterslide as it was a summer birthday. We also rented a snow cone machine which was a big hit.
-
So true!! We had a popcorn machine at a party once, and it was incredible how much the kids loved it!

Tie-Dye party. Every child can tie-dye a t-shirt to bring home as a party favor.
-
Slime party! Print out a bunch of different slime recipes (glitter slime, rainbow slime, glow in the dark slime), buy the ingredients in bulk, and let the kids go to town creating all of those messy disasters that the parents will be glad happened at your house and not their own!
-
Ugh we banned it from our house! Now our kids can only do it outside. It does make for a good birthday activity though. We used it for our last home birthday party activity.

A treasure hunt is really fun, with a series of clues leading to various places around the house and ultimately to some sort of fun prize or party favor. Easy to customize for any age, depending on how hard you make the clues!
