When you want to spend as little time, energy, and brainpower on dinner as possible, what are your go-to dinner solutions that don't require a recipe and make everyone in the family reasonably happy? Let us know what you feed the kids (and yourself!) when takeout isn't on the table.
-
Sandwiches and/or quesadillas!
-
Love doing this because everyone can customize their own to have exactly what they want.
-
-
Breakfast for dinner! Waffles, pancakes, etc.
-
Cereal (hot and cold) is always a popular option at our house pretty much any time of day.
-
-
Scrambled eggs or an egg bake. Any leftover veggies or meats usually work fine within.
-
My go-to on these kind of nights is cheese ravioli with tomato sauce.
-
Build your own baked potato. Everyone can add the toppings they wish: bacon, sour cream, green onions, cheese, etc.
-
A big platter assembled from odds and ends that we have in the fridge and pantry. Apple slices, nuts, hummus, grapes, raw veggies, cheese, guacamole, plantain chips, crackers...whatever we have on hand.
-
Naan pizzas. Everyone gets their own (store bought) naan bread to top with their choice of ingredients scrounged from the fridge and pantry.
-
Chicken nuggets and fries/tater tots from the freezer, with some kind of veggie on the side (when we are good).
-
tacos. Really no cooking involved. We just cut up whatever veggies we have left over for the week and some shredded chicken (pre-bought).
-
Noodles or any kind of pasta on hand. You can throw some vegetables in it as well.(Fettuccine, Egg noodles, etc. ) with olive oil or a little butter.
-
Salad(Spinach, Romaine or ice berg lettuce) with chicken, turkey or meatless. Throw in some carrots, snap peas, olives, etc. A complete meal and you've eaten your vegetables.
-
If you find a salad dressing your kids like it can be a game changer for salad night! We are big fans of the Wildfire Citrus Lime Vinaigrette- our kids will dip just about any veggie in it. 😃

Avocado toast with choose-your-own toppings: everything bagel seasoning, chopped tomatoes, hot sauce, fried onions, etc.
-
OMG I just discovered the marvel of avocado toast with everything bagel seasoning. So delicious, and the easiest lunch or dinner to put together!
