The Museum of Science and Industry is one of the largest science museums in the world. Exhibits focus on the history and future of science and science education, and kids love the interactive exhibits and jaw-dropping experiences geared just for them. It has an amazing model train exhibit, too, that will wow train enthusiast kids (and adults).

This seems far off the beaten path, but SO worth it. The best museum in the city for ALL ages.

This is probably the best museum I've ever visited anywhere, and a great one for families because the exhibits appeal to such a wide range of interests (watch baby chicks hatch, create a wind storm, goggle at trains and submarines, lose yourself in a mathematical mirror maze...), with a lot of interactive and engaging elements.

This museum has it all! Built for the 1893 World's Fair, it opened as a museum in 1933 and has been a Chicago favorite since then. Any kid interested in vehicles will be in paradise. There is a huge model railroad, an actual German World War II submarine, and a bunch of airplanes.

Chicago families love MSI! This museum is located a little south of downtown, but is a very quick drive. Its campus has tons of open park area for kids to burn off some energy, and is right next to the lake, too.
