Have you traveled internationally with your kids?

Theoretically, I'd love to travel internationally with my kiddos, but I'm hoping other parents have some insight on how to manage not only expectations, but also the packing, schlepping stuff, flying, and everything else!

When did you start solids?

I started around six months with my kids, but knowing what I know now, I'd probably wait longer. Just because babies are supposed to meet milestones like mastering the pincer grasp and sitting up unassisted before starting solids, and I didn't know all of that!

Do your kids like spicy food?

One of my kids loves spicy food and my other one doesn't. A little bit of hot sauce is usually okay for both though!

Do you allow your child to have friends sleepover?

So far we've only had sleepovers with cousins, and my oldest is almost 9. I'm sure at some point we'll do sleepovers with friends, likely at our own house, though!

Does your child do Cub Scouts or Girl Scouts?

Same here, and we have a pretty busy schedule as is, so I wouldn't push them if they weren't super into it.

What's the best way for a new mom to exercise?

I think the easiest for me was doing workouts at home, I looked up some yoga videos and did that with the kids nearby/sleeping.

Do you make family New Year's Resolutions?

We haven't before but I think we might start since my 4 & 8yos are starting to understand concepts like "get to bed on time" and "use less technology" lol

Do you give out goody bags for your child's birthday party?

I usually try to have a craft or activity for the kids to do during the party, and then they take home what they've made. So in the past we've done bracelets, ceramic piggy banks, decorated hats, etcetera.

What age will you allow your daughter to wear makeup?

My 12yo niece just got to junior high this year and I think that's a good time--it's the age I was allowed to wear makeup, and when most other girls were, too.

When do you take down your Christmas Tree?

We typically have a fake tree, so there's no rush to take it down, necessarily. But by January 1st, I'm ready for the holidays to be over and so the tree tends to start dropping ornaments then!

What is a good age to take a child to the movies?

Movies were so tough with my second child until he was about 4. Ages 3 and below, we would need frequent breaks to run around in the halls, the sound was too loud, etc. So I vote age 4 as the ideal first movie, where everyone can really enjoy it!

Which family members do you do stocking stuffers for?

I always do stockings for my kids, but I've also been doing one for my husband the past couple years. He's a big kid anyway!

Do you have a special place for library books?

I recently dedicated a specific shelf in our family room for books, and I even made a little folder to hold the receipt we get from the library. That way, the kids can help hunt down the books that inevitably escape from the shelf every week!

Real vs Fake Christmas Tree?

We used to love getting a real tree, but then we were gifted an artificial one. The kids still love helping assemble and decorate it, and it's not quite as messy as a real tree!

How many gifts does Santa bring each kid in your family?

My kids usually ask Santa for one specific toy they really want, whether it's a big item or not. We also talk about how we want to be fair and not ask for too many things since Santa has so many kids to gift ;-)

Do you bring your kids to see Santa every year?

In our neighborhood, Santa rides on the city fire truck and travels around to see all the kids & give out candy canes. Makes our Santa visits easy each year, though sometimes we miss him due to scheduling conflicts.

When do you send out your holiday cards?

I've always wanted to get into the habit of sending out holiday cards, but I always get too busy to follow through.

Do you wash your kids' new clothes before they wear them?

I always wash everything first, except for heavier coats. I personally don't like to wear anything without washing it, so I'm passing that habit on to my kids!

What age are the Harry Potter movies appropriate for?

So far, I've watched six of the movies with my kids, who are 8 and 4. Some scenes are a bit scary, but we talk a lot about how it's all pretend. They both love HP!

Did your first child "act out" after you brought home their younger sibling?

My two are four years apart, so I expected some jealousy issues. But that never happened, and now they are absolutely best friends!
