Taking a ride on the ferry is a time-honored tradition in New York, and it's totally free! You get amazing views of New York City, the Statue of Liberty, and you land on Staten Island, where there are plenty of things to do and see.

Seriously check the schedule if you're going on a whim after a night out. There is a late night gap between the ferries and if you time it wrong, you end up stranded in Staten Island for an hour (from experience).
